Since its inception, Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW), the largest design event held in Germany for designers and contractors, has become one of the main attractions for top international designers, architects, creative people, business and economic sector representatives and all those who have a general interest in design. The reason: MCBW clearly is aimed at sensitizing people for design and its relevance to society, culture and the economy. For one week, life in Munich will focus on Design connects! Diverse events organized throughout the city – exhibitions, conferences, workshops, company tours and much more – attract an increasing number of visitors to MCBW including entire delegations from Germany and abroad. MCBW has become all the more fascinating because of its annually changing themes that focus on current trends and topics of discussion in society. Sustainability of products and services and the advancement of young professionals play key roles in all the events.
For nine exciting days in 2015, Munich became a “Capital of Design” and attracted more than 53.000 visitors who wanted to learn more about the 150 partners, 163 events and 52 Creative Spots. Become a Partner in MCBW 2016 and benefit from last year’s overwhelming success!
Focus of MCBW 2016 will be Design Connects Visions for the Economy.
Design is a theme that connects. Design builds bridges. Design has the potential to combine many small and large thoughts and make them understandable. The connection between design and the economy is the key to assertive, courageous innovations.
Design is a decisive factor in the process of value creation. When professionals exercise their ability to make complex issues understandable and visible and processes more people-oriented, they are laying the foundation on which ideas and solutions can grow that meet the challenges of modern life and business.
Communication requires interaction – which is becoming more and more digital. Users of the digital world increasingly are helping shape and inspire brands, companies and societies. The symbiosis of imaginative professionals and business experts leads to the creation of new products, services, technologies and entire work worlds. Design and the economy complement and foster – and thus benefit from – each other!
The main focal points of MCBW 2016 will include future markets such as health management, urban planning, recreation, retailing and shopping, mobility, and education at the interfaces of these areas of design:
Not all of the events during MCBW 2016 will follow the Design Connects Visions for the Economy theme; MCBW has been designed as an open platform for creative products.
For the fifth time, MCBW’s multi-facetted, informative program will provide inspiration and innovation for trade visitors and design aficionados.

From 1990 to January 2014, Prof. Dr. Florian Hufnagl was the Director of Neue Sammlung – The International Design Museum Munich, as well as Commendatore dell'Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana. In 1980, he took up service for Neue Sammlung and lectured at the Institute for Art History at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. In 1997, he became an honorary professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Since 1998, he has chaired the Conference of Directors of the State Museums and Collections in Bavaria. Prof. Dr. Hufnagl is a member of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.www.die-neue-sammlung.de
Since 1992, Dutch-born industrial designer Adrian van Hooydonk has worked in diverse divisions of BMW Group and in 2009 he became the Head of BMW Group Design. His former positions include Managing Director of BMW subsidiary BMW Group DesignWorks USA and Head of Design BMW Cars at BMW AG in Munich.www.bmwgroup.com
Dr. Silke Claus studied architecture, taught and conducted research at Hannover University and Dresden Technical University from 1994 to 2004. She was the Deputy Managing Director of MACINA Hannover/Dubai before taking over as Managing Director of Internationales Designzentrum Berlin in 2005. As Managing Director of bayern design GmbH, a position she took up in 2009, she is responsible for coordinating the promotion of design in the state of Bavaria in cooperation with the Bavarian State Ministry of the Economy.www.bayern-design.de
