The MCBW FORUM is MCBW’s central event platform and shapes the profile of the design week to a large extent. Following the claim Visions for the Economy, the MCBW FORUM offers a large variety of conferences, talks, workshops and exhibitions with participants from around the world. In addition to designers and contractors, the MCBW FORUM addresses all people interested in design.
What challenges does a responsible economy have to meet? In what way does design contribute? How and what will we eat in the future? What will we produce and how will the output distributed? What perspectives do new technologies such as biotechnology or digital production methods offer? Are mobility and sustainability compatible? How can we create environments in which creativity, self-determination and satisfaction thrive? Many sectors of our society – urban development, recreation, mobility, healthcare, work or nutrition – have to be designed. Design confronts us with surprising approaches and alternatives for a responsible future.
Bottom-up strategies, the maker movement, the sharing economy, the repair society and a fair future are only some of the terms that come to mind in this regard. The comprehensive program of the MCBW FORUM cannot provide answers to all these questions, but it has been designed to build on them and put them up for discussion. bayern design is looking forward to cooperating with a large number of renowned committed and inspiring partners again.
The Netherlands will be the partner country of MCBW 2016. The Dutch Design Awards exhibition will offer an impressive insight into our neighboring country. The installation titled THE FUTURE OF MEAT created by German-Dutch designers Madelaine and Anne Berlis will provide food for thought across borders. The Netherlands also will be represented in OFF THE GRID, an exhibition about speculative design. The MCBW LECTURES 2016 on design and ethics have been designed in cooperation with Reframing Studio of Amsterdam.
MCBW FORUM is organized by bayern design GmbH. The programms implemented by bayern design are promoted by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology. MCBW also is sponsored by the City of Munich.
